How big is the DataFetch Scan & See? The Scan & See handheld device measures 4.85" Long x 3.3" Wide x 1.36" H. It easily fits in a shirt or pants pocket
Is it rugged enough for everyday use? The unit is housed in a high impact resistant polycarbonate plastic case with rounded edges. The unit is gasketed and is water resistant under normal conditions.
Is it easy to use? The Scan & See is operated with a single push button. Point, press, and read data - it's that simple to operate. No typing, no data errors.
How fast will it scan and respond? The Scan & See will scan the license. student ID, VIN#, or other barcode data automatically within 3 seconds after the Scan button is depressed. Transmission to the computer is instantaneous. Response back from the computer back to the Scan & See display is dependent upon the speed of the computer and/or software in use. Field testing has shown that typically, overall response from initial button activation of the Scan & See to the display of warning information is under 5 seconds.
What types of barcodes will it read? The Scan & See will read and recognize 2D driver's license and vehicle VIN# type barcodes that are compliant to approved data standards, which are currently the recognized standards for state and multi-jurisdiction federal use throughout the United States. GA license information is encrypted and cannot be read at this time.
What is included in my order? You receive the DataFetch Scan & See, two AA type batteries, software interface, a long distance Bluetooth-to-USB adapter, and user manual. Everything is included to get up and running immediately
What are the communication, maintenance, support, or monthly fees? There are none. Ever! The DataFetch Scan & See connects to your computer and operates like any other basic peripheral (such as a mouse or keypad).

Will it work with any computer? The Scan & See is designed to work with Microsoft Windows XP or 7 based computer systems with Bluetooth interface support.
How does it communicate to my computer? The DataFetch Scan & See uses the wireless Bluetooth standard commonly in use today with virtually every computer system. We supply a long range Bluetooth interface adapter with each DataFetch system that can be plugged into any available USB port on your computer for long distance Bluetooth communication up to 200 feet.
How far can it transmit? The Bluetooth interface in the DataFetch Scan & See will transmit and receive over a distance of 200 feet, (using the supplied USB-to-Bluetooth adapter. This is more than ample for multiple car-to-car distances, and is well suited for checkpoints, in-crowd or in-building situations without having to return to the computer. No external antennas are required. Metal or masonry obstructions may reduce transmit distance.
What if I am beyond the communication range? If you exceed the communication range, the DataFetch Scan & See will emit a warning tone and communication error indication on its LCD display when trying to do a scan operation. Simply move closer to the computer to automatically re-establish communications.
Is my communication link secure? Yes. Each Datafetch Scan & See and associated computer are uniquely paired during initial setup. No other non-valid Bluetooth device can receive or transmit data to the DataFetch Scan & See or computer. Once paired, it cannot be externally "hacked"
Does the Scan & See internally store the scanned data? No. The Scan & See only transmits and displays the data, like any peripheral. All data storage occurs on the patrol unit MDT - NOT within the Scan & See.
Will it interfere with my radio, computer, or phone? No. The DataFetch Scan & See complies to FCC part 15 rules governing interference. Since the DataFetch communicates via Bluetooth, there is no radio frequency effects related to radio or cellphone use. No special precautions are required.
How do I "pair" it to my computer? Simply press and hold the Scan button on the DataFetch for approximately 6-8 seconds, and the device will enter the "recognize pairing" mode with any Bluetooth equipped computer within the communication range. Accept the pairing on your computer and you're done. All setup and pairing coding is done automatically. Full pairing operation directions are included in the Scan & See user manual and on our website Download section.
Do I need to pair each computer & Datafetch Scan & See? Yes. This assures Scan & See-to-computer secure data transmission. You may pair one Scan & See to only one computer at a time. If you pair it with one computer and later pair it with a different computer, the previous pairing will no longer be in effect, and will be replaced with the new computer/Scan & See pairing setup. The Scan & See will not (for data security purposes) simultaneously communicate with two computers.
How long do the batteries last? Typically two to three months under normal use, longer with sporadic use.
Is it rechargeable? No. Like a conventional remote control, the DataFetch Scan & See has been designed to draw power only when being operated, and shuts down completely when not in use to conserve the batteries.
What codes does the data display indicate? The Datafetch DF2D Scan & See for Law Enforcement LCD display indicates Wireless Access, Low Battery, Communication Timeout (TMOUT), Active License (ACT), Expired License (EXP), Suspended (SUSP), Revoked (REV), Outstanding Warrants, (WAR) misdemeanor/felony types, Stolen Vehicle (STV), and Stolen Plate (STP). The DF3D Scan & See has a 2 line by 16 character display that is fully programmable to display any message as set by the associated application software being used. Messages vary per each application software, as appropriate and specific to that application. See full datasheets for each DF2D or DF3D application for full details on messaging options.
How big is the display? Is it easy to read? The display area measures approximately 1 inch x 2 inch and features bold data characters on a dark background. The display is transflective for daytime visibility and backlit for night visibility.
What is the warranty on the DataFetch Scan & See? The DataFetch Scan & See carries a one year warranty on all parts and labor.
